The third meeting in a short space of time between these local rivals and after the league meeting between them at Walsall Wood was abandoned due to high winds, it is with some trepidation that I enter the Aspray Arena with it blowing a gale. Thankfully, the conditions are nowhere near as bad as they were at the ML Safety stadium and it gave Khalsa a chance to play one of their many games in hand on the leaders. Polymac Packaging League Cup Alvechurch have set up a tasty 3rd trip to. It didn’t take the home side long to get their noses in front, a cross from Carlo Franco picking out Craig Bannister, who controlled, swivelled and fired home in the 4th minute. The Wood went close to an equaliser when James Pemberton saved well from Dan Griffiths. Anthony Juxon then saw his shot cleared off the line and Ben Birch fired over as Wood looked for an equaliser. Instead, it was 2- 0 to Khalsa. Bannister struck a delicious free- kick which rebounded off the post and Brad Lawley poked the ball home. The second goal seemed to drain Wood of any impetus and Khalsa again went close when Bannister shot just wide from all of 4. The home side were playing some excellent football and a neat interchange down the right saw Franco’s cross just in front of David Meese. Steven Hayles came to Wood’s rescue with a super challenge to thwart Bannister. With half- time approaching, Lee Evans made a fine acrobatic save to keep out Bannister’s header. Khalsa were not to be denied and they grabbed the third before the half- time whistle. Marvin Nisbett heading home from close range. In the 6. 2nd minute visions of the first abandoned game were revisited as the game was suspended due to a floodlight failure. With Walsall Wood in the dressing room, the lights flickered into life much to the relief of everyone concerned and the game could continue. Lawley should have made it four but his header was straight at Evans. Ricardo Ricketts forced a save from Pemberton and Drew Aiton was off target with a header in a rare Wood attack. In Stoppage time at the end of the 9. Kane Cork saw his point- blank shot saved by Evans but Khalsa will take the win and the clean sheet as they look to close the gap on leaders Hereford. A disappointing day for Walsall Wood who certainly missed the injured Joey Butlin. Review. Premier Division. With Hereford in County Cup action and both Alvechurch and Heanor Town seeing their games postponed, the focus was on whether Sporting Khalsa could close the gap at the top with one of their 6 games in hand. The answer was an emphatic yes as they were comfortable 3- 0 winners over Walsall Wood at The Aspray Arena. At the bottom of the table, Brocton moved up to 1. Continental Star. Boldmere St Michaels continued their rise up the table with a 2- 1 home win over Long Eaton United, their opening goal being wind assisted from the half way line. Coventry Sphinx looked to have picked up a much- needed point at Loughborough University but the students grabbed all 3 points with a 9. Karl Demidh returned from injury with a bang, scoring a hat- trick to ease Rocester’s relegation concerns as they beat Dunkirk 4- 1 at Hillsfield. Westfields are in 1. Coleshill Town 2- 1. Quorn are another side in trouble and a Dan Flowers goal was enough for a Lye Town victory at Stourbridge Road. A goal 6 minutes from time from Luke Edwards gave Bardon Hill a point in a 2- 2 draw at AFC Wulfrunians. Alvechurch closed the gap on Hereford to just 6 points following a 3- 0 win at Westfields on Tuesday. There was a healthy midweek crowd of 2. Hereford supporters. Division 1. This gave Rostance Edwards the chance to jump into 3rd place after a narrow 2- 1 win over Austrey Rangers. In the only other game to survive the weather, Coton Green beat Paget Rangers 2- 1 to move into the top 6. Division 3. Hats off to AFC Solihull who picked up their first point of the season at the 1. Long Eaton United took a higher division scalp as they knocked Ilkeston out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at The New Manor Ground, 2- 1 the score. Heanor Town also made progress in the Derbyshire County Cup with a comfortable 4- 0 win over New Mills, Jay Cooper with a couple. Lye Town knocked out higher level Banbury United in the Birmingham Senior Cup, winning the game on penalties. In the Leicestershire Senior Cup, Quorn needed extra time to edge their tie with Harborough Town. Another dramatic derby at St Johns Park as Hinckley AFC beat Leicester Road 4- 3 after extra time. It was 2- 2 at full time and when Leicester Road took the lead it looked like an away win. Goalkeeper Simon Arnold, playing outfield equalised before a last minute penalty from Ryan Seal sent Hinckley through. Another disappointing night for Dunkirk as they were knocked out of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup by Radford, losing 3- 2 a home. A good game at Brinsford Lane in the Walsall Senior Cup, as Walsall Wood beat Wolverhampton Casuals 4- 2. In the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup, Rostance Edwards pulled off a shock beating higher division Pelsall Villa 2- 1 at The Old Bush. Bolehall Swifts tough season continued with defeat in the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup at the hands of Dudley Town, the visitors winning 3- 0. High scorers on the night were Coventry Copsewood with an 8- 2 victory over Southam United in the same competition, making it 1. The result is all the more surprising as Southam took a 2- 0 lead early on. Reserve Division. League leaders Coleshill Town were held at home by Lichfield City. There were 8 goals at Silkmore Lane as Brocton and Gresley drew 4- 4. Cameron Barton got a hat- trick as Evesham United won 4- 2 at Romulus and it was a similar scoreline for Continental Star as they won away at Sutton United. Under 2. 1 Divisions. Tipton Town made it two Bowl wins on the spin as they beat West Midlands Football Academy 5- 2. Weekend preview. FA Vase. It is the 3rd round of the FA Vase and a chance for a number of our clubs to make the national stages of the competition in January. Hereford have been installed as favourites by the bookies for the competition and they will be in confident mood ahead of their home tie with fellow Premier Division side Brocton. The Badgers have shown improved form in recent weeks including that remarkable 5- 5 draw with Heanor Town. This promises to be an exciting game and I think it will be a lot closer than some people think. Another all Premier Division tie takes place at the ML Safety Stadium as Walsall Wood entertain Alvechurch. The Church are in excellent form and closed the gap on Hereford at the top of the league table to 6 points with another win in midweek. The form says an away win but The Wood have a good record in this competition and another tight game is in prospect. AFC Wulfrunians travel to Cheshire to face a struggling Alsager Town. Alsager have recently appointed former Norton United Manager Scott Dundas as their new man in charge and they have reserved their best performances for cup competitions. Saying that Wulfs have to be favourites and I fully expect to see them in Monday’s draw. Uttoxeter Town have surprised many by reaching the 3rd round and Coleshill Town will have to be on their guard when the two sides meet on Saturday. Coleshill have had a good year in cup competitions taking some major scalps in the FA Cup and they have a realistic chance of going a long way in the competition.

The original and historic working models are still in the possession of Paraskevakos.[4]Forerunner[edit]The first mobile phone to incorporate PDA features was an IBM prototype developed in 1. Future possible developments[edit]Foldable OLED smartphones could be as much as a decade away because of the cost of producing them. There is a relatively high failure rate when producing these screens. As little as a speck of dust can ruin a screen during production. Creating a battery that can be folded is another hurdle.[4. Modular smartphones are projected, in which users can remove and replace parts. Near future smartphones might not have a traditional battery as their sole source of power. Instead, they may pull energy from radio, television, cellular or Wi- Fi signals.[4. Fox. News. com - Breaking News | Latest News. DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "- //W3. C//DTD XHTML 1. 0 Transitional//EN". The Red River Showdown,[1] commonly called the Red River Rivalry, the Red River Classic, or the Red River Shootout, is an American college footballrivalry game played annually at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas, Texas during the second weekend of the State Fair of Texas in October. The game is played by the Oklahoma Sooners football team of the University of Oklahoma and the Texas Longhorns football team of the University of Texas at Austin. The series is one of the major rivalries in NCAA football and in all of American sports.[2] The name is derived from the Red River that forms part of the boundary between Texas and Oklahoma that has in the past caused conflict between the two states, most notably the 1. Red River Bridge War. There are three Red River Shootout trophies exchanged based on the outcome of the game. The best known of these is the Golden Hat, which is, appropriately, a gold ten- gallon hat, formerly of bronze. The trophy is kept by the winning school's athletic department until the next year.[3] A newer trophy, the Red River Rivalry trophy, has been exchanged between the two student governments since 2. The governor of Texas and governor of Oklahoma also exchange the Governors' trophy and frequently place a bet on the game such as the losing governor having to present a side of beef to the winning governor, often donated to charity.[4][5][6]Another annual tradition is the running of game balls by the schools' Reserve Officers' Training Corps programs.[7] Each school's ROTC program uses a relay running system to run one game ball all the way from their respective campus to Dallas. Once there, they participate against each other in a football scrimmage, with the winner taking home a rivalry trophy and bragging rights. For both teams, the rivalry is bitterly emotional and territorial in nature relating to the two states' close proximity, past border disputes and economic and cultural differences.[8][9][1. Series history[edit]The game originated in 1. Oklahoma was still a United States territory and the Oklahoma campus was still in Oklahoma Territory.[1. Until the 2. 00. 5 meeting, the 1. Red River Shootout. In 2. 00. 5, it was sponsored by SBC Communications, and the game was officially renamed the SBC Red River Rivalry, with the word "Rivalry" replacing "Shootout" out of a desire not to convey an attitude of condoning gun violence. In 2. 00. 6, with SBC's merger with AT& T Corporation, the game was renamed the AT& T Red River Rivalry. In 2. 01. 4, the name changed again and is now the AT& T Red River Showdown. The term Red River Shootout or Red River Showdown is also applied to meetings between the two schools in sports other than football. During a Q& A session with De. Loss Dodds (the Athletic Director of UT) during the Big 1. Dodds stated in an interview, "That game – the rivalry game for us has always been Oklahoma. The A& M game's been a great game and all of that. And we may play 'em. But it's not something that we have to do. I think the Oklahoma game is something we have to do."Texas leads the post World War II series 3. Since 1. 93. 6, the first year of the AP Poll, at least one of the teams has come into the game ranked 6. Texas leads the series 6. However, since '3. Texas leading 4. 1–3. In 2. 00. 5, the The Dallas Morning News asked the 1. Division 1. A football coaches to identify the top rivalry game in college football. The Red River Rivalry ranked third, behind only Michigan–Ohio State and Army–Navy.[1. A page from the 1. OU Yearbook depicts the 1. The first meeting between Texas and Oklahoma's football teams occurred in 1. At that time, the Texas team was typically called "Varsity". The write- up in the Austin American- Statesman article referred to the game as a "practice game".[1. The paper reported: The game of football yesterday afternoon at the Varsity athletic field was an interesting contrast, notwithstanding the rather one- sided score of 2. Varsity. The Oklahoma men played a very good game, but they had weak points and the Varsity men found this out, and proceeded to take advantage of them. For instance, the visitors' tackles and ends were weak, and the Varsity men made most of their gains through these men. Their guards and center, though, were stiff enough, and the Varsity's attack at these points never netted large gains, and were frequently futile. While Oklahoma should be given credit for the stiffness of her center trio, the fact that the Varsity backs made but small headway at these points is partly due to the Varsity backs themselves. They had not the life and dash that is necessary to successful line plunging, and they failed to heed Coach Thompson's oft repeated admonition to hit the line low and with speed, and the consequence was that when they got to the line they did not have the necessary momentum to plunge on through. This was the case, notwithstanding the fact that the men are coached to play a good distance behind the line, so that they can get up speed by the time they reach it.[1. In the 1. 95. 0 rivalry game, Billy Vessels scored on an 1. Texas native Jim Weatherall kicked the extra point to give Oklahoma a narrow 1. In 1. 95. 8, Texas defeated Oklahoma by one point, breaking the University of Oklahoma's series dominance of the 1. The game was notable in that Texas Longhorns head coach Darrell Royal had 1. Oklahoma Sooners. Royal defeated his former coach and mentor Bud Wilkinson in the game. Wilkinson would lose to Texas the next five years before retiring in 1. The 1. 96. 3 game featured #1 Oklahoma versus #2 Texas, the seventh regular season #1 versus #2 game (eighth, overall) in the history of the AP Poll. Texas won the game, took the #1 ranking and kept it for the rest of the season, winning its first national championship. The 1. 97. 6 rivalry game was overshadowed by allegations by Texas coach Darrell Royal that Oklahoma had been spying on his practices. The claim was later confirmed in OU Coach Barry Switzer's book, Bootlegger's Boy. Royal and Switzer (who was 3–0 against Texas as a head coach coming into this game) were involved in a serious feud at the time. The 1. 97. 6 game was attended by U. S. President Gerald Ford. Ford made an appearance with Royal and Switzer before the game. Switzer and Royal both spoke to Ford but not to each other. The game ended in a 6–6 tie. It was Royal's final Red River Shootout. In the 1. 97. 7 game, Texas lost both their starting and backup quarterbacks in the first half. Yet, behind the power running of eventual Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell, a strong defense, and the unheralded composure of third- string- quarterback Randy Mc. Eachern, the Horns prevailed 1. In a rain- soaked 1. Texas entered the game ranked #1, Oklahoma #3 (#2 in some polls). University of Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer wore a ballcap during the game that read "Beat Texas." This game also marked the only time that future University of Texas at Austin head coach Mack Brown participated in the Red River Shootout not as a Texas Longhorn (Brown was OU's offensive coordinator). Texas jumped to a 1. OU rallied to lead 1. With 1. 0 seconds remaining, trailing by 3, Texas was driving and was within field goal range but decided to take one more shot at the end zone. Texas quarterback (and future North Texas head coach) Todd Dodge appeared (in replays) to be intercepted in the end zone by OU's Keith Stanberry, but the officials ruled it incomplete. Texas's Jeff Ward subsequently kicked a field goal and the game ended in a 1. The first Big 1. 2 Conference overtime game, the 1. John Blake squad under the direction of freshman quarterback Justin Fuente. The game ended Oklahoma 3. Texas 2. 7 after a come from behind victory in the final seven minutes.
